This jug is a slight second as it a small patch of crawled white glaze, please see photos. This does not affect its function.

These stunning jugs were originally created during the first lockdown, when Fieldhouse pottery's Durham market stall was closed for three months. With more time for creating, these jugs were made as a way of connecting with familiar places we could no longer visit.

They have been very popular, so we have continued to make some. Each jug takes several hours to create, with each decal being cut out individually from slabs of clay to fit the shape of each jug.

The jugs feature Durham Cathedral, built to house the shrine of St Cuthbert in 1093AD. It sits high atop a wooden hill, visible for miles around. Bill Bryson (quite rightly) described it as the 'best cathedral on planet earth.'

The cross from outside the cathedral is interwoven with the spectacular victorian viaduct which carries the east coast rail line from London to Edinburgh.

The sanctuary door knocker from the north door of the cathedral lies below the handle and a hint of St Cuthberts cross is impressed into the thumb rest.

This jug is glazed in weathered bronze, a copper based glaze, reminiscent of the colour seen on rooves/ statues that have stood out in the rain for many years.

It's a calm, tranquil glaze full of flecks of different greens, turqoise and whites.

Please note the pottery pictured is the exact one you will receive.

All our glazes are created from scratch and are unique to Fieldhouse Pottery. They have taken hundreds of hours of experimentation, exploring the individual character of the raw elements and how they interact together - a true art and alchemy. Some of the  elements we use include cobalt, copper, tin, iron, silica, borate, alumina.

All our pottery is fired at Cone 6 (1222 degrees centigrade)

Fieldhouse pottery has been rigourously tested and is food safe, dishwasher safe, microwave safe and oven proof.
